It’s Unfortunate – NPP Reacts To Alan’s Resignation, Set To Hold A Press Conference Today

The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the decision of former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen to resign from the party as unfortunate but has assured their members to remain calm as they officially address the matter in a press conference later today, September 26, 2023.

The party stated that it has taken “notice of the unfortunate decision of Mr. Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, a longtime member of the Party to forfeit his membership and contest as an independent presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections” in a statement released by its general secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Monday, September 25.

“The Party leadership is by this medium, urging the rank and file of our great Party to remain calm and await an official address by the Party to Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation at 14:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Party headquarters. May God bless our homeland, Ghana, and make the New Patriotic Party great and strong.”

Mr. Kyeremanten announced his resignation from the NPP on Monday, September 25. He revealed at a press conference in Accra that his decision was to enable him to run for the presidency as an independent candidate.

This marks his second resignation from the NPP; his first was in 2007, but he later rejoined. Mr. Kyerematen claimed that his resignation was motivated by the realization that the party no longer needed his contributions. He claimed that this came after the party had treated his supporters harshly.

Furthermore, Mr Kyeremanteng urged supporters of the party to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ after he officially resigned from the party and declared his intention to run in the 2024 elections as an independent candidate.

Alan further asked Ghanaians to give him the mandate to lead the country as an independent candidate, as he has no ties with the NPP or NDC which means he has new ideas to formulate to turn the fortunes of the country around.

He said the concept of becoming the first independent candidate to be the president of the Republic of Ghana would revolutionize the country and take it to the next level.

In a speech streamed live on social media, Alan said his breakaway from the party does not mean he has turned his back on the party. He said he still cherishes his relationship with the rank and file of the NPP party while urging the supporters to vote for their preferred NPP parliamentary candidates and vote for him as the next president of Ghana.

Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen further explained why he has left the NPP and is gearing up to contest the 2024 elections as an independent candidate. On Monday, September 25, 2023, Alan submitted his resignation letter to the NPP, stating that he was no longer interested in being a member of the party.
