Comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, popularly known as DKB, has offered a piece of advice about navigating Ghana’s highly polarized political landscape.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, DKB cautioned against switching political allegiances or attacking opposing parties, emphasizing the potential pitfalls of being caught between two major political forces, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Reflecting on the experiences of veteran actress Maame Dokono, who has had her share of political ups and downs with both parties, DKB warned that shifting allegiances can be risky.
“It’s a very diabolical thing to do to yourself because both parties are often interconnected,” he explained. “If you sell out one and move to the other, they may gossip about you.”

He expressed concern about the aftermath of political seasons, where individuals who switch sides often find themselves abandoned by both parties once the election dust settles.
DKB highlighted the fleeting nature of political loyalty: “Don’t go. It’s a trap. After the election, they’ll both abandon you. So if you are with one, just stay with one, stick with one.”
DKB also offered some insight into how people can avoid unnecessary conflict and tarnished reputations during election cycles. He advised against attacking or insulting the opposition, suggesting that it does more harm than good.
“If you’re going to compete for someone to win, don’t ever insult the opposition. Don’t attack the opposition,” he stated, hinting that such moves can come back to haunt individuals, particularly after the elections.
