Pastor Mensah Otabil’s recent remarks regarding marriage have ignited significant reactions across the Ghanaian online community and beyond.
The revered religious leader urged men to pursue marriage without relying on superficial justifications like financial limitations, asserting strongly that any man who cites money as a reason for remaining single is misguided.
In response to this controversial issue, comedian DKB expressed that Otabil’s views may be outdated, as the relevance of his statement does not align with contemporary realities.
He pointed out that financial challenges are often cited as the primary reason in divorce proceedings, suggesting that it is wise for individuals to achieve financial stability before entering into marriage.
He said, “I am just coming from jogging and my pastor, you know I am an ICGC member and my pastor, Dr. Mensa Otabil is angry about marriage.
“Daddy calm down oo, the world has changed. He said, if you want to be rich before you marry, there’s something wrong with your head.
“Daddy, if you go to divorce court, ninety per cent of the cases, is money issues. Daddy, we are waiting to get money before we get married. Daddy, your time was better. This time if you don’t take care, you go marry devil.”
DKB further countered a portion of Obail’s remarks regarding fornication, asserting that marriage serves as a remedy for fornication, in contrast to self-control and self-discipline.
“Marriage is not the antidote for fornication, it is not at all. The antidote for fornication is self-control, Daddy. There are a lot of married people who are even more active on the single market than actual bachelors.”
