It Will Take Months To Restore Power To Sogakope (BSP) Power Restoration – ECG

Following the Akosombo Dam spillage that has caused widespread flooding in the area, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has warned that it may take months before power is restored to the Sogakope Bulk Supply Point (BSP).

In order to ensure the Bulk Supply Point’s safety, ECG had to shut it down, leading to outages in the Sogakope, Anloga, Keta, Akatsi South, Abor, and North Tongu areas. While the remaining towns get their power from the Aflao Bulk Supply Point (BSP), the electricity supply has been temporarily rerouted to Adidome and the surrounding area from Juapong.

It is anticipated that the Sogakope BSP will be inoperable for a number of months, as predicted by the organisation. The situation has been eased to some extent thanks to the Aflao BSP’s electricity supply.

However, the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) is currently facing challenges in ensuring a consistent water supply to the areas affected by the floods due to power shortages. The GWCL now limits water delivery to these areas based on the reliability of their electrical infrastructure. In the meantime, GWCL is constructing more distribution lines to assist the flood-affected residents of Aflao.

There is a current shortfall of 2,070 cubic metres, or 455,620 gallons, because the headworks at Agordome are only supplying 5,500 cubic metres out of a total capacity of 7,570 cubic metres.

Weekly rotations of a water management programme have been implemented by the GWCL for a number of communities, including Avorvi, Old Agorkpo, Agorkpo New Town, Hospital, Toklokpo, Sokpoe, Tefle, Wume, Agodo, Vodaphone, Comboni, Fievie, and Medical City. In order to have access to water, there must be a reliable source of electricity.
