Sometimes, success can bring unexpected challenges, as popular Nigerian socialite and influencer Bobrisky recently revealed.
Reflecting on what he described as the “genesis” of his troubles, Bobrisky pointed to an award he received earlier this year that has continued to spark public debate.
In March 2024, Bobrisky was crowned the Best Dressed Female during the premiere of Beast of Two Worlds (Ajakaju), a movie by actress Eniola Ajao.
The award, accompanied by a one-million-naira cash prize, might have seemed like a moment of celebration. However, the recognition quickly ignited outrage on social media, with many questioning the decision to bestow a title reserved for women on someone who is not biologically female.
The backlash wasn’t just online. Following the event, Bobrisky claimed to have faced a string of difficulties, including scrutiny from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Immigration Service.

In a heartfelt post shared on his verified Facebook account, the influencer traced these issues directly to the award.
“My problems began when I won the Best Dressed Female award with a prize of 1 million Naira,” Bobrisky wrote. “If I ever see another award for ‘Best Dressed Female,’ I’ll disappear from that location immediately.”
This candid reflection marks a turning point for the flamboyant social media personality, who has often been a lightning rod for controversy in Nigeria’s conservative social landscape.
The award, meant to celebrate style and creativity, instead reopened debates around gender roles, societal norms, and inclusivity in entertainment.
