Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has attested to the validity of the controversial recording that was allegedly leaked and said to show a plot to oust Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police.

On Monday, August 28, 2023, Bugri Naabu confirmed it when he spoke before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee, which has been assembled to look into the suspected conspiracy against the IGP.

Bugri Naabu acknowledged openly that he and three other senior police officers did in fact have the important conversation that caused so much uproar. He went on to name the three police officers as Superintendent Gyebi, COP Mensah, and Commander Asare.

Additionally, Bugri Naabu disclosed that the discussion took place in his office, which is located in Osu next to the Osu Police Station. He claims that the two senior officers approached him with the intention of arguing in favor of the IGP’s removal. The officers’ explanation for this request was that Dr. Akuffo Damapre’s actions were thought to closely match the objectives of the opposition NDC, thereby jeopardizing the chances of the ruling party winning the impending 2024 elections. He claimed that the top officers’ demands worried him, which is why he decided to videotape them to make it tough for any refusal.

Additionally, Daniel Bugri Naabu, the former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), disclosed that he hired someone to record the conversation on the leaked tape that is alleged to have caught a scheme to depose Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Ad-Hoc Committee investigating the leaked audio on Monday, Bugri Naabu said “I didn’t do it myself but I requested somebody who knows how to do the recording to come and do it for me. I didn’t use a phone I went to the mall and got this ordinary tape.”

Mr Naabu explained that he recorded the conversation with the three high-ranking police officers because of how crucial the issues being discussed were and also to have evidence to present to the president.
