Jamie Foxx, a true force of nature in entertainment, has finally broken his silence on the life-threatening health crisis that left fans worried and the industry buzzing.
Speaking during the taping of his upcoming Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was, the Academy Award-winning actor opened up about the harrowing ordeal that brought him to the brink of death in 2023.
In an emotional and gripping revelation, Foxx described the moment he collapsed on the set of Back in Action.
“I passed out and woke up thinking it had been a second,” he shared with the audience, “but it had been two or three weeks. I was in a stone-cold coma.”
For nearly 20 days, Foxx hovered between life and death, unaware of the battle raging around him to save his life.
Demecos Chambers, a fan present at the Atlanta recording, detailed Foxx’s chilling account, saying, “He thought he just blacked out, but by the time he woke up, he had grown a beard.
Jamie said if he hadn’t made it to the hospital at that exact moment or if the nurse hadn’t acted fast, he wouldn’t have made it. He said, ‘It was lights out.’”

Foxx’s daughters, Corinne, 30, and Anelise, 16, were pivotal in his recovery, and he credited them for keeping him alive.
“His daughter was playing a family guitar while he was in the coma, and that was what woke him up,” Chambers revealed. “Jamie said they are his everything. His bond with them isn’t just father-daughter—it’s life-saving.”
The experience profoundly changed the actor. “He talked about seeing life differently now, appreciating the people who stood by him,” Chambers said. “It’s clear this wasn’t just a brush with death—it was a wake-up call.”
Foxx’s long road to recovery was shrouded in mystery, with fans left to speculate after Corinne first announced in April 2023 that her father had suffered a “medical complication.”
The family kept the specifics under wraps, and Foxx spent months in rehabilitation before making a triumphant return to public life.
At the special’s taping, Foxx radiated energy and optimism. While still recovering, he was in high spirits, sharing jokes and even demonstrating his physical progress by bouncing on stage. “Jamie’s storytelling is magnetic,” Chambers said.
“He had everyone laughing one moment and holding back tears the next. It felt like you were sitting in his living room, hearing the most incredible story of survival.”
