Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has broken his silence following his defeat to John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 elections, lamenting what he described as an unusual voter apathy among his party’s base.
Addressing members of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto subcommittee at his residence in Accra on Monday, the former Vice President balanced his appreciation for their hard work with a candid reflection on the challenges faced during the election.

“I want to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to all of you for your dedication and hard work towards putting together such a comprehensive document, which we presented to Ghanaians,” he stated, acknowledging the effort the team had put into crafting policies that were meant to galvanize support.
However, his gratitude was tempered by frustration. “It was as if our people held a meeting across the country and decided they wouldn’t go out to vote,” he said, alluding to a disappointing turnout that many believe played a significant role in the party’s loss.
The meeting, attended by chairpersons, vice chairpersons, and members of various subcommittees, offered a reflective moment for the team that had worked tirelessly on what Dr. Bawumia described as one of the most comprehensive policy documents in the party’s history.
