Reggae/dancehall artist Ras Kuuku has challenged the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) Board’s decision to restrict gospel categories to only gospel artists, questioning the consistency of their criteria.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Ras Kuuku asked, “Why am I not allowed to compete in the gospel category? Is Nacee a gospel musician?”
When DJ Slim pointed out that Nacee is widely known for gospel music, Ras Kuuku responded, “But Nacee has produced secular songs like ‘Kwen Kwen’ for the NDC.

He also has songs like ‘Boys Boys’, ‘Dondo’, and ‘Paddy Paddy’—so why is he accepted in gospel categories while others are not?”
Ras Kuuku further claimed that his song Me Mpaebo is “one of the biggest gospel songs released in the past ten years” and questioned why it couldn’t qualify.

The TGMA defines ‘Best Gospel Song’ as “the most popular Christian song, commercially released in the year under review,” emphasizing that “only songs performed by gospel artistes” qualify.
Ras Kuuku’s comments suggest that Nacee’s involvement in both gospel and secular music creates a “divided brand perception” that should be reconsidered in the awards’ categorization.
