, Ghana Street Journal

The J.J. Rawlings Foundation has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to investigate what it describes as “toxic and untruthful comments” made by an NPP MP against the late former President Jerry John Rawlings and his daughter, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, on the floor of Parliament.

In the petition, signed by Executive Director Yaa Asantewaa Agyeman-Rawlings, the Foundation condemned the remarks as “inflammatory, despicable, and disgraceful,” stating that they “disrespect the legacy of a leader who dedicated his life to Ghana’s political and socio-economic progress.”

Addressing the attack on Zanetor, the Foundation noted that she has been “an effective and reliable MP since 2017” and slammed the colleague MP’s remarks as “misogynistic and an abuse of parliamentary privilege.”

The petition urges Parliament to “compel the offending MP to take responsibility and retract the defamatory remark.”
