On the evening of Saturday, April 15th, Atiq Ahmed, a former gangster turned politician, and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead while being transported to a hospital in Prayagraj. Two other people, a police officer and a journalist, were hurt as well.

The media were following the arrested pair as they were brought by police to the hospital for a checkup when the incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m.

This comes after a confrontation on April 13 claimed the life of Atiq’s son Asad in Jhansi. Both he and Ghulam, who were on the Prayagraj police’s wanted list for the murder of Umesh Pal, met their deaths in an unfortunate incident.

A senior police officer has revealed that three people have been arrested in connection with the event, which took place only two days after Ahmed’s son Asad was killed. Atiq Ahmed was accused of killing BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005 and also of murdering Umesh Pal in February of this year.

For the past twenty years, Atiq Ahmed has been charged with dozens of crimes, including kidnapping, murder, and extortion. In March of this year, a local court sentenced him and two others involved in an abduction case to life in prison.

According to BBC, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has prohibited large gatherings in the districts of Uttar Pradesh state and requested a judicial investigation into the killings that occurred on Saturday night.

Who is Atiq Ahmed

Atique Ahmed was an Indian criminal and politician who worked for the Samajwadi Party. He was a member of the Indian Parliament and the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He was charged with more than 100 crimes, and he was in jail from 2019 until his death in 2023.
