Ghanaian comedian DKB has claimed that he may be the only comedian in Ghana to receive an endorsement from a sitting president.
He noted that during an event with the youth at the Bukom Boxing Arena, former President John Dramani Mahama not only repeated his jokes but also publicly supported him, which has significantly broadened his audience and led to opportunities for performances globally.
DKB further emphasized that this recognition from Mahama reflects the former president’s commitment to the creative arts sector.
“Do you know how it feels when you are getting calls from Brazil, Colorado, the Middle East? There are Ghanaians in Jordan, in Quebec, watching it online.
“I was moved and touched because it means that the president pays attention to my industry. So, if he’s in power, how difficult will it be for him to cater to my industry?” DKB told Joy Prime in an interview.
Additionally, DKB expressed his desire to return Mahama’s kindness, which motivated his attendance at the NDC’s 2024 Manifesto Launch in Winneba, Central Region.
He articulated his reasons for supporting Mahama in the lead-up to the presidential elections set for December 7 this year.
“I’m here to reciprocate the love JM showed me on the night of the youth soiree at Bukom. It has never happened to me in my life before that a president will repeat two of my jokes.
“I’ve dedicated my life to him for free. I’m telling you, I’m here to reciprocate what he has done for me,” DKB explained.
