Ghanaian rapper-turned-highlife artist Amerado Burner has solidified his place in the country’s music scene, achieving what many thought was impossible.
During a press conference held in Accra on January 9, 2025, Amerado shared his remarkable milestones from 2024, which have not only elevated his career but also contributed to a shift in Ghana’s music charts.
“In January 2024, ‘Kweku Ananse’ and its remix were both in the top ten on all major music platforms, which was unprecedented.
“I was the first artist in 2024 to achieve that, and I’m incredibly humbled to see artists like King Paluta and Fameye now embracing highlife music,” he said, beaming with pride.

Amerado’s transition from rap to highlife initially raised eyebrows. Highlife music, deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture, has often been overshadowed by contemporary genres like afrobeats and hip hop.
However, Amerado’s bold decision to embrace this classic genre has paid off. “Highlife is the heartbeat of Ghanaian music. It tells our stories, carries our rhythms, and preserves our heritage,” he explained.
“I felt it was time to return to our roots and show the world that highlife can be modern and relevant.”
His hit song ‘Kweku Ananse’ and its remix have sparked a renewed interest in the genre, with younger artists like King Paluta and Fameye experimenting with highlife sounds. For many, this resurgence goes beyond music—it’s about reconnecting with their cultural pride.
Amerado also pointed out the decline of Nigerian music’s dominance in Ghana. “Gone are the days when Nigerian songs were dominating our charts. Now, people are tuning into more Ghanaian music, and I’m happy to see that,” he remarked.
