Kumawood star Agya Koo has spoken out about the challenges he faced after refusing to film a nude scene early in his career.
In a revelation captured in a video, the actor who rose to fame via the Keysoap Concert party claimed that his refusal to participate in the scene led to an intentional boycott by directors in the industry, a decision that, according to him, greatly impacted his career at the time.

“The Ghanaian movie industry has never seen an actor of my caliber. I am bigger than all the actors and actresses they have now,” Agya Koo boldly stated, reflecting on his illustrious journey in the entertainment world.
Known for his comedic brilliance and versatility, Agya Koo has been a household name for years, contributing significantly to the rise of Kumawood cinema and gaining fans across the globe.
However, behind the glamour, Agya Koo revealed a troubling chapter in his career. The actor explained that it was his moral stance against a nude scene that led to his fallout with some key players in the industry.
The movie in question was based on the legendary Ghanaian traditional priest, Okomfo Anokye, who is revered in history for his mystical powers and role in uniting the Ashanti kingdom.
According to Agya Koo, the script required him to reenact a scene where Okomfo Anokye bathed in a river, but the director’s vision for the scene went far beyond what Agya Koo was comfortable with.
“I am saying this. It was because of one movie that I was boycotted. It was an Okomfo Anokye movie, and I was supposed to bathe in the river. Yes, the history is there—he bathed in the river—but when he was bathing in the river, there was no camera filming him.
“The director wanted me to go naked in front of the entire cast and crew, and I refused,” Agya Koo recalled, expressing his discomfort with how the scene was handled.

This blacklisting, as he describes it, temporarily dimmed the spotlight on one of Ghana’s most celebrated actors.
“It’s not something I regret. I stood by my principles, and I still do,” Agya Koo emphasized, reflecting on his choice. His words underscore the deeper challenges actors face when trying to balance their personal beliefs with the demands of the entertainment industry.
