Ghanaian rapper and songwriter Kweku Darlington has revealed that collaborating with highlife legend Daddy Lumba is at the top of his career aspirations.
In a recent interview on BTM Afrika with NY DJ, Darlington expressed his admiration for the legendary musician, describing him as the “great man” he would love to work with.
“I would love to record with Daddy Lumba, the great man,” Darlington said with enthusiasm. Despite understanding the challenges of making such a collaboration happen, he remains hopeful.
Kweku Darlington acknowledges that it is rare for Daddy Lumba to feature on other artists’ tracks. “Have you ever heard any artiste feature Daddy Lumba? It doesn’t happen. It’s got to be Daddy Lumba rather than featuring another artiste,” he pointed out.
Darlington shared that he’s spoken to people in Lumba’s inner circle, who have indicated that the highlife icon appreciates his music, though a collaboration is not yet confirmed.
The rapper, known for hits like “Sika Aba Fie” and “Baabi Awu,” revealed that working with Daddy Lumba would be such a significant achievement for him that it might even lead him to consider retiring from music altogether.
“At first, I dreamt of working with Okyeame Kwame, which materialized, so Daddy Lumba is next. I may even retire from music if it happens,” Darlington admitted.
He added that working with someone the country considers the greatest of all time (GOAT) would be a career-defining moment for him.
“It will not be an easy achievement because I want to be counted among the best.”
