British actor Idris Elba has express his gratitude to the people of Ghana and the Ashanti ethnic group for hosting him.
On Friday, February 3, 2023, the actor known for his role in “Beast of No Nation” met with Ghana’s president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to discuss the idea of constructing a film studio to enable both domestic and foreign film studios to create high-quality films in the country.
He said that they planned and did research to come up with the policy’s parameters. They also tried to find out what international filmmakers need from Ghana.
Idris Elba said that if the country doesn’t have a policy framework, it can have as many movie studios as it wants, but it won’t attract moviemakers.
During his stay, he attended the Akwasidae Festival which the Ashanti people in Ghana celebrate. The festival honors the Ashanti King, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu Il, and the Queen mother, Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom IlI, for their contributions to the history of the Ashanti Kingdom.
The fact that he went to the Akwasidae Festival shows once again how much he cares about celebrating African culture and giving a voice to African artists.
In a social media post, the actor expressed gratitude to the people of Ghana saying “Exciting things to come! Unforgettable moments at the Akwasidae Festival. Thank you for having me”.
