Iconic Music Group Fugees Reportedly Working On New Album

The legendary music group The Fugees is said to be in the process of creating their first album in over two decades, as they prepare for a highly anticipated reunion tour.

Consisting of Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel, and Lauryn Hill, the trio is reportedly back in the studio working on new music, marking their return since the massive success of their multi-platinum album The Score in 1996.

This exciting update was revealed by an undisclosed insider to The New York Post in a recent article published on June 28th.

The Post also mentioned that Wyclef teased a potential new album back in November, noting that, as he put it in an old song: “Anything can happen.”

About Fugees

The Fugees were formed in 1990 in South Orange, New Jersey. Comprised of Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel, and Lauryn Hill, the group took their name from a shortened version of the word “refugees”.

They gained recognition in the mid-1990s for their innovative fusion of reggae, R&B, funk, and hip hop, distinguishing themselves from gangsta rap and establishing their reputation as one of the most influential alternative hip hop acts.

The Fugees occasionally incorporated Haitian Creole into their lyrics and were among the first hip hop ensembles to incorporate live instrumentation into their performances, following in the footsteps of the Roots.

Their accolades include two Grammy Awards, a Brit Award for International Group, and the Medal of Honor from Haitian President René Préval. Regarded as one of the best-selling hip hop groups of all time, the Fugees ranked second only to Michael Jackson as the top R&B act globally in the 1990s.

They were recognized as one of the premier rap groups by MTV (2007) and Billboard (2023), and secured the 17th spot on VH1’s ’50 Greatest Hip-Hop Artists’ list (2003).

Rolling Stone included The Score in their list of the 500 Greatest Albums, while the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored “Ready or Not” as one of the Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
