I Won’t Stop Predicting Elections – ‘Unrepentant’ Ben Ephson Fights Back After Assin North ‘Defeat’

Renowned pollster Ben Ephson has reacted to bouts of trolls he has been subjected to following the victory of James Gyakye Quayson in the Assin North election.

Ben Ephson maintains that his credibility as a pollster has suffered no damage despite his the Assin North by-election turning out differently from how he predicted it.

Ben Ephson’s comments follow criticism he received on social media for incorrectly projecting that Charles Opoku, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, would unseat James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Assin North seat in Tuesday’s by-elections.

However, preliminary results place the NDC Parliamentary Candidate ahead of his rivals, notably Charles Opoku of the NDC and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana. Speaking on 3FM following the release of the preliminary findings, Mr Ephson acknowledged that his prognosis was off.

Ephson insists that is not going to stop him from predicting election results in future given his only major setback in 2016 when he had it wrong.

“2016 I got it wrong, I did not stop,” he told Johnnie Hughes on Tuesday night.

“These things don’t bother me [because] I’ve got a track record.”

He said he is used to the reactions on social media and 2016 was worse.

“I am not going to talk. If that’s what they are going to hear, I’m not going to say anything.”
