Former prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Hopeson Adorye has admitted during an interview that he intends to publicly seek forgiveness from John Dramani Mahama for spreading falsehoods about him while he was affiliated with the ruling party.
In his discussion on Accra FM, Mr. Adorye, who has since left the NPP to join Alan Kyeremanteg’s Movement for Change, praised Mahama as an exemplary figure with a superior track record compared to Nana Akufo-Addo.
He also expressed concerns about corruption and land grabbing under the current administration, emphasizing the need for prosecution to deter such actions in the future.
“John Mahama was an Angel. One day I will kneel on National television and apologize to him and say I’m sorry. The kind of things I said about him, I didn’t know he was an angel.
He is an Angel. We destroyed him for nothing. As compared to today, Mahama was better,” he said.
Hopeson Adorye and some key members of the NPP were sacked for supporting the then presidential candidate, Alan Kyeremanteng who broke away from the party and formed his own party.
In November 2023, Hopeson Adorye reacted to the development saying the dismissal has no significant impact, and the former Minister of Trade and Industry is expected to emerge victorious in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
Despite his dismissal, Mr. Adorye plans to put in extra effort to help Kyerematen win the presidency in 2024. He stated in a radio interview thus:
This is a waste of time for a general secretary to issue this kind of letter; everybody is aware that once you support a different candidate apart from the party’s candidate, you forfeit your membership… So when you forfeit your membership, what is the use for you to come and write and put it out?
I don’t think it is worth it… I know where this orchestration is coming from. I am their headache. This will encourage me more. I am going to work hard to make sure Alan Kyerematen becomes the next president of Ghana.
