When we think of Afia Schwarzenegger, most minds drift to her humorous personality and unapologetic presence in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
Known for her candid social media posts and bold takes on social issues, Afia Schwarzenegger is more than just a comedian or media personality.
In a recent Instagram post, she opened up about a lesser-known chapter in her life: her political ties with Akua Donkor, the late founder of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), who recently passed away.
“I was the 1st appointed running mate of Ghana Freedom Party in 2015,” Schwarzenegger shared in her post. She revealed that she had been given this rare opportunity by Akua Donkor herself.
At the time, Donkor was working to establish her party’s identity and vision, aiming to challenge the political status quo and to appeal to Ghanaians who sought fresh voices in governance.
The GFP quickly became known for Donkor’s unconventional approach to politics, challenging traditional ideologies with her charisma and unique insights.
Reflecting on this moment from nearly a decade ago, Schwarzenegger admitted that her involvement might come as a surprise to many: “I know people will not believe it, so I went into my archives.”
It’s true—many may not readily associate Afia with political aspirations. In her career, she has navigated various roles, from comedian and actress to social media influencer, building a brand that defies easy categorization.
However, this post shows that her journey also includes political ambitions, even if they weren’t in the limelight.
In an emotional twist, Schwarzenegger shared that she recently spoke with a mutual acquaintance and with Madam Akua Donkor herself just last Friday, recalling that they “had a very good laugh about it.”
This final conversation with Donkor, filled with shared memories and laughter, offers a glimpse into the bond the two women shared beyond the public eye.
