In an exclusive interview with Accra-based Joy News, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie delved into the inspiration behind his trending song “No Sir,” shedding light on a personal experience that many people can relate to.

The rapper, who has made a name for himself in both Ghana and internationally, spoke candidly about a situation he faced in the past—one that involved love, betrayal, and personal growth.

Sarkodie recalled a moment from his younger years when he was dating a girl, only to find that she had developed a connection with one of his friends. The twist?

His friend came from a wealthier background, with a car and a more privileged lifestyle, while Sarkodie’s family was middle-class.

“I think it’s happened to me before but it wasn’t this bad. A friend of mine who came from a good family and had a car while I came from a middle-class family,” Sarkodie reflected.

The situation took a toll on him. His friend had more space in his home, occupying the boys’ quarters, and it was here that his girlfriend ended up spending time.

“They linked up, but then I took it to the chin,” Sarkodie shared, explaining that he didn’t let the betrayal hold him back but used it as a turning point in his life. “From that day, I changed,” he added, revealing that he had not found himself in a similar position in a very long time.

He also touched on how this experience helped him grow emotionally, asserting, “I’m not in that other position because I don’t entertain people… you know.” It’s clear that this past event influenced his personal views on relationships, trust, and emotional maturity.

Relating this to the present day, Sarkodie offered a broader perspective on his song “No Sir.” “This is a very relatable story,” he said.

“This December, people will go out with their girlfriends and might end up going back alone.”

He emphasized that “No Sir” is more than just a song—it’s a reflection of real-life situations that many have encountered, especially during the festive season when relationships are tested.
