I Prefer Married Men Because They Have Fewer Responsibilities – Mzbel

Ghanaian musician Mzbel has candidly shared a personal revelation that has sparked conversations about relationships, expectations, and cultural norms.

In an interview with Empress Gifty, Mzbel opened up about her dating preferences, revealing an unconventional choice: she tends to date married men.

This admission has caught the attention of many, given the sensitive subject matter and the norms surrounding relationships in Ghanaian society.

“Since I started dating, all the men in my life have been married because they are accompanied by fewer responsibilities.

When they come to you, they won’t bother you with house chores because they have to return to their wives. I like it that way because that’s how I started,” she said, offering insight into her personal choices.

For Mzbel, the appeal lies in the simplicity and lack of commitment that married men seem to offer. The idea of less involvement in daily tasks or emotional labour, she suggests, has made her dating experiences more manageable.

While the preference may raise eyebrows, Mzbel’s open approach to relationships isn’t entirely uncommon, especially among individuals who have experienced the complexities of love, marriage, and family.

In the interview, Mzbel also discussed her current relationship, revealing her engagement but downplaying the need for a formal introduction to her family.

“I haven’t asked him if he’s married because I don’t want to know. I’m not married, but I am engaged. He hasn’t met my family yet…

” We’re both interested in each other, and that’s what matters. I asked for a ring, and he gave it to me,” she explained, highlighting her belief that love and commitment are about what the couple shares, rather than adhering to societal expectations.

Despite the unconventional nature of her relationships, Mzbel is unashamed of her choices. “We have a child together.

“I don’t believe in the idea that he needs to meet my family for an official introduction, it’s between the two of us. He is much older than me,” she added, reinforcing her stance on privacy and autonomy in her romantic life.
