Highlife music has always been the soul of Ghana’s musical identity, weaving together heartfelt stories, vibrant rhythms, and melodies that resonate with generations.
Yet, in an era where new genres are taking the spotlight, some worry that Highlife’s golden threads could fade. Veteran musician Kwabena Kwabena, a steadfast advocate for the genre, believes otherwise.
“Highlife is thriving, and if you want hits, stick to the genre,” he said in an interview with Graphic Showbiz. “Some may consider it old-school, but many of Ghana’s top hits, like Fameye’s Very Soon, King Paluta’s Makoma, KiDi’s Lomo Lomo, and even Stonebwoy’s Jejereje, are all rooted in Highlife.”
For Kwabena Kwabena, these songs prove the genre’s unmatched ability to blend cultural authenticity with contemporary appeal.
Reflecting on his nearly two-decade career, the singer spoke with gratitude about the journey that has kept him at the forefront of Ghana’s music scene. “I am humbled, honestly. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Almighty God and to my fans all over the world for their continuous support,” he shared.
As he approaches his 20th anniversary in the industry, Kwabena Kwabena sees his longevity as a testament to the power of Highlife and his commitment to staying authentic.
