In an honest conversation with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar on the ‘Talkertainment’ show, Ghanaian actor and brand influencer Mikki Osei Berko, popularly known as Dada Boat, opened up about his personal journey of growing up without a father figure.
Reflecting on his life, Mikki shared how this experience shaped his outlook on relationships, success, and personal development.
Mikki’s story is one of resilience and encouragement, especially for young people who face the absence of a parent. He confessed that meeting his father for the first time at age 40 was a life-changing moment.
“I met my dad for the first time at age 40,” Mikki shared. “I say this not to discredit my dad because he had his own issues at the time. My dad is still alive, and we are very close now. We bonded so well after we met.”

This late but impactful reunion with his father didn’t erase the challenges he faced as a child.
Mikki pointed out how growing up without both parents around can significantly affect one’s personal growth and understanding of relationships.
He used his story to inspire others, especially youth who may feel limited by their circumstances. “I say this to encourage the youth who say, ‘I never met my dad, my mom was however there, so that is the reason for my predicament.
This does affect lives, but if you keep your focus right, you can survive life and build it with or without a parent,” Mikki advised.
