In a conversation following his victory in the Big Brother Naija Season 9 ‘No Loose Guard’ edition, Sule Kingsley, popularly known as Kellyrae, opened up about his experiences in the house and the impact it has had on his life.
While celebrating his incredible win, which includes a cash prize of N6 million and a customized Innoson Vehicle worth N40 million, Kellyrae candidly shared the emotional journey that led him to this moment.
“I won’t lie to you. I have made millions, but I’ve never had one million like this in my account at once,” he admitted. Despite his financial success in the past, the magnitude of his winnings was still overwhelming.
“If I have to calculate how much I have spent, I would say I have spent up to a million. Never has it happened before. I won’t lie to you.”
Reflecting on his time in the house, Kellyrae revealed that he never felt assured of winning. “At no point did I feel I was going to win. You know, I was just praying in my head, ‘God, please keep us here for the first and second week at least.’
“I kept thinking about what we would leave behind if we had to leave early. What are we leaving with? Those were the two things I had in my head: we have to leave with something, and we have to leave something behind.”
His thoughts echoed the sentiment that the Big Brother experience was not solely about the money. “Even if we leave with all the money, it is what we leave behind that people will talk about. Those are the things that open more doors for us,” he said.
As the weeks went by, Kellyrae’s prayers were answered; he and his fellow housemates made it through week after week. “We were here for the first week, second week, third week, fourth week, and after that, anything that happens, God takes all the glory,” he said with gratitude.
When discussing the show’s dynamics, Kellyrae noted that he had done his homework about the type of content viewers appreciate. “I heard about Big Brother Naija and the kind of content that people love. I thought people liked Wanni, Handi, and Onyeka,” he explained, showing a keen awareness of his fellow contestants and their appeal to the audience.
One crucial aspect of his journey was balancing fame with his marriage. Kellyrae emphasized the importance of communication with his wife before entering the house.
“Before we came on the show, I knew what to expect. I had a discussion with my wife, saying that life would not be the same anymore. This is what we should expect, so it’s fine; I’m ready for it,” he said, showing his commitment to both his personal life and newfound fame.
As for his strategy in the house, Kellyrae highlighted the significance of forming connections with fellow contestants.
“A strategy for me and my wife was to connect with people. You saw there were times when Onyeka and I danced, Handy and I danced during the parties, along with some other girls,” he recalled. He understood that being a married man could have influenced how others interacted with him and his wife.
“If I had come in as a married man, the girls would have given Dr. TJ space; they wouldn’t have danced with him.
“The guys wouldn’t have danced with my wife; they wouldn’t have been free if they had known she was married. I didn’t want that; I wanted to connect; I wanted friends in the house.”
