“I felt hands all over me — my private parts, my breasts, everything,” Sefa recalled, noting how the crowd’s conduct quickly turned invasive. While she had faced verbal harassment and unwelcome comments in the past, this encounter was her first experience with physical violations from fans.
Visibly shaken by the memory, she added, “I was so scared at that point in time.” The young singer explained how she felt as though everyone in the crowd was closing in on her. “Personally, I felt like everybody wanted to get in my space,” she said, acknowledging the strong emotions she felt during the encounter.
“Just because you’re close to someone or admire them doesn’t mean you should take advantage when they’re in your presence.”
The incident has prompted Sefa to call for increased security measures for artists during public appearances. She emphasized the need for bouncers, particularly during high-energy events, to protect performers from similar invasions of personal boundaries.
“When we perform, we share ourselves with the audience — our music, our energy. That does not mean it’s an invitation for anyone to touch or harass us,” she remarked.
Sefa urged event organizers and venue managers to ensure artists’ safety, not only to prevent harassment but also to maintain an environment where performers can freely and confidently engage with fans.
Harassment incidents such as Sefa’s have sparked wider conversations in Ghana’s entertainment industry, as several female artists have reported similar violations.
