Ghanaian artist Amerado Burner has always been one to challenge the status quo in the music industry.
From his early days as a rapper to his recent foray into singing, Amerado’s refusal to remain within the confines of any single genre has made him a standout in the Ghanaian music scene.
In a recent press conference held in Accra on January 9, 2025, he shared his thoughts on his evolution as an artist, his creative process, and why he chooses to embrace versatility rather than limitation.
“I don’t like to stay in my comfort zone,” Amerado began, reflecting on his early years in music. “As a kid, I always wanted to try new things and challenge myself. I’ve never been one to just stick with what’s familiar.” This mindset has driven his career forward and shaped his approach to music.
Amerado’s transition from rap to incorporating singing into his music was not a sudden decision but a natural evolution.

He shared, “When I was rapping, I often featured artists who sang the chorus, but I also wrote their choruses. I’ve always had the desire to sing and rap simultaneously.” For him, the two genres weren’t in opposition—they were complementary elements of his artistic expression.
Yet, this shift hasn’t been without its challenges. “Sometimes you need to grow and discover yourself, but that doesn’t mean I’ve switched from rapping entirely,” he explained.
“If I can rap and sing together, why limit myself?” This approach reflects his belief that artists should not be confined to one genre or one identity, especially in a world that often expects them to specialize.
Amerado addressed the societal pressure to focus on just one thing, stating, “We live in a society where people want to see you focus on one thing.” In the eyes of many, an artist must either be a rapper or a singer, but not both.
