During his State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered to Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, President Akufo-Addo made a noteworthy declaration, asserting that he does not consume alcohol.
“I don’t drink alcohol. Everybody who knows me knows that I don’t drink alcohol,” stated the president, addressing the legislature.

An unexpected moment occurred during his address when the president began experiencing persistent coughing fits. Seizing the moment to quench his thirst, he requested water.
As a glass of water was promptly provided, President Akufo-Addo, in a light-hearted manner, picked up the glass to take a sip, jokingly remarking that what he was drinking was indeed water and reaffirming his stance on alcohol consumption.

The State of the Nation Address, a constitutional mandate outlined in Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, serves as a comprehensive overview of the economic, social, and financial status of the country.
