I Dodged a Bullet- Lizzette Martinez Reflects On Disturbing Industry Experience Amid Diddy Allegations

In a revealing new TV special, Impact x Nightline: Diddy: Drugs, Lies & ‘Freak Offs,’ Lizzette Martinez, a ‘survivor’ of R. Kelly’s potential abuse, has shared a disturbing encounter that left a lasting impression on her.

Martinez, reflecting on a chance meeting with a man in a position of power, recounted how what seemed like an innocent compliment turned into a potentially dangerous situation.

“He’s like, ‘Hey, you have really pretty eyes,’ and said, ‘Hey, I’m having a party. You want to come with me?’” Martinez recalled how R. Kelly first approached her.

Despite the friendly approach, she sensed something unsettling and followed her intuition. “I didn’t have a good feeling about it and I just declined. Thinking about it now, it’s like, ‘Wow, I really dodged a bullet.’”

Martinez’s experience echoes a pattern seen too often in the entertainment industry, where vulnerable individuals are lured in with promises of success.

“They’re dangling a career in front of you. They use the power to get you to where they want you,” she explained, speaking to the predatory behaviour some in positions of influence wield to manipulate those aspiring for fame.

The special, which delves into the dark side of the music and entertainment industry, also touches on the recent shocking revelations involving Cassie, Diddy’s former partner.

Martinez expressed her horror after watching a video involving Cassie, a piece of evidence that made a deep impact on her. “I can’t unsee that Cassie video,” she confessed. “You can tell me whatever you want about him, but I can’t unsee that video.”

For Martinez, Cassie’s courage to come forward was monumental, creating a ripple effect for others who have experienced similar abuse.

“She helped others to feel like they can come forward and that’s huge because you put yourself on the line,” Martinez added, emphasizing the bravery it takes for victims to speak out against powerful figures.
