Ghanaian sound engineer and singer, Elijah Nortey Thompson, widely recognized as De Thompson DDT, has found unexpected success with his viral hit ‘Honorable Waawe’.
The track has quickly turned into a sensation across digital platforms and social media, becoming a surprise anthem in the aftermath of Ghana’s presidential and parliamentary elections.
Speaking with a mixture of excitement and disbelief, De Thompson revealed, “The numbers on the digital streaming platforms for Honorable Waawe are very good, and I didn’t expect the song to blow so much.”
Unlike other tracks he has released in the past, Honorable Waawe appears to have struck a chord with fans in Ghana and beyond.
“There is no song of mine that I’ve done which has gone so viral than this Honorable Waawe song. This particular song has taken me very far, even beyond Ghana,” he shared.

The song’s popularity has exploded organically without the usual promotional push or paid airplay, a rare phenomenon in Ghana’s music industry.
“Last week, my song was number one on Instagram, and it is trending on YouTube with the video.
The sound has also been used so much on TikTok by a lot of people,” De Thompson said, clearly awed by the public reception.
Despite not paying DJs or radio presenters to push the track, Honorable Waawe is resonating on the streets and airwaves alike.
“I’ve not even done any promo for the song, but it’s trending on the streets. Besides, I’ve not paid money to any DJ or presenter to play the song on the radio, but it’s all over,” he added.
The timing of the song’s rise has only fueled its relevance. With Ghana recently concluding its fiercely contested elections, Honorable Waawe—a playful commentary—has become a rallying tune among citizens.
It resonates not just as entertainment but also as an expression of the nation’s political mood, capturing the attention of listeners across different age groups.
