I Didn’t Believe I Could Beat Mahama In The NDC Flagbearership Race – Kojo Bonsu

Kojo Bonsu, who ran for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race but lost, says he didn’t think he could beat the former president, John Dramani Mahama, in the race.

He said that even though he didn’t think he would win, he was hoping that the delegates would change their minds and vote for him.

The former mayor of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) stated that he knew from the start that it would be difficult to defeat John Mahama.

Although he was sceptical of his chances, he was hoping that the delegates could change their minds and vote for him.

In an interview broadcast on Citi TV on May 23rd, he said, “To be honest, I didn’t believe I could beat former President Mahama from the start, but I was hoping that maybe people would change their minds and vote for me.”

Former President John Mahama won the National Democratic Congress’s flagbearer primary and will represent the party in the 2024 presidential election.

On Friday, May 12, Kwabena Duffour, the former Finance Minister under the Mills government, withdrew as the other candidate for the NDC flagbearership.

When the dust settled on Saturday, May 13th, following the NDC primaries, Mr. Mahama had received an overwhelming 297,603 votes, representing 98.9% of the total legal votes cast. His sole challenger, former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu, received 3,181 votes, or 1.1% of the total.
