Ghanaian Hiplife star and radio presenter Mzbel has once again voiced her frustrations about not receiving the recognition she believes she deserves for her contributions to the music industry.
In a recent interview, the veteran performer reflected on her groundbreaking influence, particularly in empowering female artistes to embrace boldness and confidence in their craft.
“I get hurt when I don’t get credited for my value in the industry,” Mzbel said, her tone laced with both passion and disappointment. She highlighted how her career had challenged traditional norms and paved the way for a new wave of artistry.

“Because of me, female artistes are more confident in performing on stages in certain clothes. They don’t wear kaba and slit to come and perform,” she explained, referencing the traditional Ghanaian attire that was once seen as the standard for public appearances by women in the industry.
Mzbel’s rise to stardom in the early 2000s was nothing short of revolutionary. At a time when the music scene was dominated by conservative expectations, she unapologetically brought a fresh and daring style that pushed boundaries.
From her provocative lyrics to her bold stage presence, Mzbel challenged societal norms and redefined what it meant to be a female performer in Ghana.
However, this trailblazing spirit came at a cost. Mzbel often found herself at the center of controversy, with critics labeling her style as too revealing or untraditional.
Despite the backlash, she stood firm, becoming a symbol of self-expression and artistic freedom. Years later, her influence is evident in the confidence and versatility of today’s female artistes, who seamlessly blend tradition with modernity in their music and stagecraft.
“When I see younger artistes owning their style and being unapologetic about their choices, I feel proud,” Mzbel admitted. “But it hurts that many people don’t acknowledge where it all started.”
