I Can’t Protest Two Months to Elections—Bridget Otoo

As the countdown to the elections approaches, residents in Ghana are witnessing yet another round of last-minute road repairs, a move that has sparked both laughter and frustration.

Media personality Bridget Otoo took to social media to express her thoughts on the situation, highlighting the recurring pattern that residents have come to expect during election years.

“Our very terrible road is seeing a facelift, with less than two months to elections,” she tweeted. “I thought the neighbourhood had contributed yet again, except I hadn’t been contacted. I was just told it is gov’t. But I can’t protest ‘two months to elections.’

They will put laterite on this road for votes and leave it to the rains… same cycle… lol.”

Bridget’s commentary shines a light on the age-old issue of infrastructure neglect, particularly in the lead-up to elections. For six years, she has witnessed the same routine: government officials arrive to address the crumbling roads, only to vanish after the votes are cast.

“I’ve been here six years. Every election year, the government comes and dumps laterite on this road, and after the elections, they disappear, leaving residents to fix it. They are back,” she added, chuckling at the predictability of the cycle.

However, once the election dust settles, many of these promises are left unfulfilled, leaving residents in a constant state of disappointment.

Bridget’s post is more than just a personal grievance; it serves as a rallying cry for accountability.

As Ghanaians prepare to head to the polls, her words remind everyone of the importance of scrutinizing political commitments and holding elected officials accountable for the promises they make.

In a time when voters are eager for change, Bridget Otoo’s voice adds to the growing chorus calling for genuine action rather than temporary fixes.

With elections on the horizon, her message serves as a reminder that the needs of the people should not be sidelined for political gain.
