Ashanti has shared an emotional tribute following the passing of Murder Inc. co-founder Irv Gotti, reflecting on their complicated history while acknowledging his role in her success.
“I can’t believe things ended like this… and it makes me so sad,” the singer wrote. “We weren’t on the best terms the past few years but as I’ve always said, through our ups and downs I will forever be grateful for everything that you’ve done for me. We made history and that will remain infinite.”
Ashanti and Irv Gotti’s relationship has been a topic of discussion for years. The producer was instrumental in crafting her biggest hits and shaping her early 2000s stardom.
However, their relationship soured in later years, with Ashanti accusing Gotti of “manipulation” and disputing his claims that they were romantically involved.

Despite the tension, Ashanti emphasized her respect for his talent and influence. “I’ve always respected your musical genius and ability to push me to be my best.
“All the greatness and positive things that came, far outweigh the dark and negative times,” she stated.
In 2022, she publicly refuted Gotti’s claims about their alleged romance, clarifying on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast: “We’re not gonna say relationship.
“We dealt with each other, but was Irv my boyfriend? Was I his girlfriend? Never… Irv had several girlfriends, so I’m a little confused by the label and the description.”
