Actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has shared his reflections on the landslide victory of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, acknowledging the valuable lessons learned from the results.

Dumelo, who secured the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat for the NDC for the first time, emphasized the shift in the political landscape and the message that the electorate has sent to political parties.

In an exclusive interview with Joy Prime, Dumelo stated, “The people of Ghana have spoken loud and clear. This election outcome proves that they are perceptive and will not be taken for granted.”

Reflecting on his win, which saw him defeat Lydia Alhassan, the NPP candidate, Dumelo underscored that the loss for the NPP in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency was especially significant given its historical importance.

The seat had been held by the NPP, and Dumelo’s triumph represents a shift in the political tides.

He added, “Securing this seat for the NDC in Ayawaso West Wuogon was not just a victory; it was a lesson. This victory showed me the trust the people have in me and in the NDC. It is a clear message to all politicians that we must never take the people’s support for granted.”

For Dumelo, the victory is more than just political success. As an actor, farmer, and now Member of Parliament, he views his position as a responsibility to the people. He expressed his readiness to get to work immediately, with a focus on making a real difference in the lives of his constituents.

“I want to serve my people with dedication. I am committed to ensuring that we don’t repeat the mistakes made by those who thought the electorate could be easily swayed or ignored,” he said, referring to the NPP’s 2014 defeat.

Dumelo also expressed optimism about working with the incoming leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to drive meaningful change.

“Together with the NDC government under the leadership of President Mahama, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of Ghanaians, especially the youth, farmers, and small businesses,” he remarked, signalling his eagerness to collaborate with the administration to bring about the change that the people have voted for.
