Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has recounted an unsettling experience involving alleged conspiracies within his own political party.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central opened up about a plan, allegedly spearheaded by some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to have him imprisoned due to his outspoken criticism of the government.
“The only reason why I attended that meeting was because of Honorable Ken. Honourable Ken is a good guy,” A Plus began, referring to Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent NPP member.
“You may have your own issues with him, but he’s a great guy. Honourable Ken is the person who will be there for you in times of need.”
A Plus then recounted a chilling incident that had him preparing for the worst. “There was a time that some members of the NPP had a plan to jail me,” he alleged.

The morning before he appeared in court, A Plus said he braced himself for possible imprisonment. “I told my kids that it’s possible that I’ll go to jail today,” he revealed, painting a stark picture of the pressure and uncertainty he faced.
Among those implicated in the alleged plan was Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP.
“Chairman Wontumi was part of that plan to put us in jail,” A Plus claimed. This allegation, if true, highlights the often fractious nature of internal party politics, where dissent can lead to severe repercussions.
Amid the turmoil, Kennedy Agyapong emerged as an unexpected pillar of support. “The morning before we went [to court], Honorable Ken called me and said, ‘I’m leaving America, I’m coming to Ghana tomorrow morning.
I have to be in Ghana because I don’t understand what is going on.’” True to his word, Agyapong reportedly halted his activities abroad and returned to Ghana to intervene.
“He actually stopped everything and flew back into Ghana,” A Plus recounted, emphasizing Agyapong’s commitment to his cause.
This act of solidarity left an indelible mark on A Plus. Despite political differences and his recent alignment with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) under the Coalition of Concerned Citizens (COCOS), he feels a sense of obligation toward Agyapong.
“Even though I wrote on Facebook that my heart is with COCOS, aligning with the NDC, I had to listen to Honorable Ken,” he explained. “Honorable Ken is a great guy.
He will be there for you. He’s their friend’s friend, he’s their uncle’s uncle, he’s their brother’s brother.”
