The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has officially outlined activities to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary, with a series of educational and commemorative events planned for the period.
A statement from the Presidency Communications office, dated Sunday, February 23, 2025, detailed the finalised events, including a special commemoration of the historic 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident, which will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Other key activities include a nationwide school quiz competition, a debate competition, a schoolchildren awards programme, and a ceremonial parade at the Presidency.
The Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC emphasized the importance of rekindling youth interest and public participation in Ghana’s independence celebrations.

“With this new approach, we hope to reset the interest and participation of the youth and the general populace in this significant national event whilst remembering and honouring our heroes,” the statement read.
Ahead of the 28th February Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Nationalism Park, the subcommittee has also planned various engagements, including sharing historical content on the 1948 shooting of three ex-servicemen, hosting an X-space conversation on the ‘Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present,’ and leveraging media platforms to promote awareness.
The event, which will take place at 8 a.m. on February 28, will be broadcast live and streamed across multiple platforms.
“We encourage the media, bloggers, and the public to actively participate by sharing information with their viewers, listeners, and readers,” the statement added.
