Veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has shared some words of wisdom with comedian Basketmouth following the release of his debut film, A Ghetto Love Story.

Offering heartfelt congratulations, RMD emphasized the importance of navigating the established film industry with humility and respect.

“Congratulations on your new film A Ghetto Love Story. I say make I call you, hail you first and then give you advice,” RMD began, acknowledging Basketmouth’s entrance into an industry where major players already hold influence.

He encouraged the comedian to seek guidance from established filmmakers like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, AY, and Kunle Afolayan, advising him to “hold ground” by connecting with the industry’s top professionals.

RMD highlighted the significance of paying respect to these industry leaders before attempting new ventures, even suggesting that a comedy collaboration with fellow comedian Buchi could be in the cards once the groundwork is laid.

“Comedy with Buchi fit work, but that na after you don pay respect to people wey hold ground,” he added, stressing that success in the film industry comes from recognizing those who have paved the way.

Basketmouth (real name Bright Okpocha) has been featured in movies before. Although he’s primarily known as a comedian, he has also dabbled in acting over the years.

One notable appearance was in “Head Gone” (2014), a Nigerian comedy film that featured a star-studded cast including A-list actors like Ali Baba, 2Baba (2Face Idibia), and Sound Sultan.

In addition to his movie roles, Basketmouth has had significant success in creating and starring in his comedic TV series, “My Flatmates”, which has been well-received across Africa.

The transition from comedy to acting and film production has been a natural progression for him as he expands his creative portfolio.

However, with the release of his first full-feature film, A Ghetto Love Story, Basketmouth has officially ventured into movie production and storytelling on a larger scale.
