Former President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to transform the Ho Airport into a first-class pilot training school for West Africa.
According to him, the initiative will allow young people interested in aviation to pursue their dreams of becoming pilots.
Speaking on Wednesday, January 22, during a meeting with a delegation of pastors from the Volta Region at the Flagstaff House in Accra, Mahama highlighted the government’s commitment to using the underutilized airport better.
“That will help us to utilize the airport more, and so we’re going to work on that so that we can operationalize it as quickly as possible,” he stated.
The former president also outlined a phased approach to the project, emphasizing the need to begin with smaller-scale operations before scaling up.

“And so, my advice to them was to start with a smaller aircraft and, as the route develops, you can bring in the larger aircraft,” he said, explaining how the initiative could gain momentum over time.
Mahama expressed optimism about the feasibility of the project, noting that discussions and evaluations were already underway.
“So, I think they’re appraising their strategy, and I’m sure once they do that, they might start flights to go again,” he added, suggesting that the training school could eventually lead to increased use of the airport for other purposes.
