The lingering uncertainty over the Tema Central election results has taken a decisive turn. Following weeks of public scrutiny and legal challenges, the High Court has directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize the collation of two outstanding polling station results.
This mandate comes after the New Patriotic Party (NPP) sought judicial intervention, arguing that delays in concluding the collation undermined the democratic process.
The case extended beyond Tema Central, with similar concerns raised in Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North.
Initially, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ebi Bright was declared the winner in Tema Central. However, a re-collation effort by the EC later identified the NPP’s Charles Forson as the rightful victor.
The EC attributed its inability to complete the process to threats against its officials, leaving two polling station results unresolved since December 8, 2024.

Addressing the controversy, the court dismissed an objection from the NDC, which questioned its jurisdiction. It then issued an order compelling the EC to proceed with the collation.
In addition, the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, was tasked with ensuring adequate security to prevent disruptions during the process.
Legal analyst Clara Kassel-Tee hailed the ruling as a necessary step toward upholding the electoral process’s integrity.
“Without completing the collation, any declaration made would lack legitimacy. The EC must fulfill its constitutional duty to conclude the process. Those dissatisfied with the court’s decision have recourse through proper legal channels,” she remarked.
