A tragic incident occurred during Tuesday’s heavy downpour in the Ashanti Regional Capital of Kumasi.

A five-year-old girl was swept away by flood waters in the Moshie Zongo area, which was one of several areas affected by the flooding.

The young girl had sought shelter after finishing school but unfortunately lost her life due to the one-hour heavy rain. The bridge in the area overflowed, causing the flooding that led to this unfortunate event.

According to sources, the girl attempted to cross a broken bridge at Moshie Zongo and was swept away by the rapidly running water.

Despite the efforts of residents who mounted a search, her body was found miles away. The entire community is in mourning as a result of this tragedy.

It is worth noting that this is the first incident of its kind recorded in the month of September. However, it is important to mention that at least eight people have lost their lives due to floods in the Ashanti region this year.
