British actress Dame Maggie Smith, renowned for her illustrious career, has passed away at the age of 89.
The news was confirmed by her family to CBS News, with her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, releasing a statement through publicist Clair Dobbs that she died peacefully in the hospital early Friday morning.
“An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,” the statement said.
