It has been revealed that Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya and Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, has assembled a group of thugs who are always prepared to cause harm or even kill anyone who dares to challenge her.
As a result, the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has issued a warning to journalists and media organizations in the country, advising them to steer clear of the minister.
During a press conference held in Accra on Thursday, January 25, 2024, Albert Kwabena, the president of GJA, emphasized that journalists who choose to approach the MP do so at their peril.
He further stated that Hawa Koomson is surrounded by individuals of questionable character who have no qualms about harming or even killing journalists, as they are aware of the protection they enjoy.
Albert Kwabena has recently issued a directive that restricts all media outlets from reporting any news related to the Awutu Senya legislator.
This directive comes in response to an attack on David Kobina, the morning show host of Cape FM, allegedly carried out by individuals associated with the Member of Parliament who also serves as the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
The incident occurred during the parliamentary vetting of the New Patriotic Party in the Central Region on January 4, 2024. The minister has officially denied the accusation through a statement released by her team. It is alleged that supporters of Hawa Koomson mistakenly targeted David Kobina, believing him to be a journalist who had supposedly made an inappropriate comment about the MP on a local TV station (UTV).
“We must keep in mind that there are dangerous people around Honourable Mavis Hawa Koomson. They can kill you.
“Whether you are in the studio, at home, at church, at the mosque, or public gathering, they can come for your life,” he said,
The GJA president added, “That’s because they are irresistible. Just stay away from her and be safe.”
