Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Charterhouse, Robert Klah, has addressed mounting pressure regarding the reinstatement of the Group of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), clarifying that the decision has yet to be made.
“I want to set the record straight that Charterhouse has always said Group of the Year will be reinstated if it’s competitive,” he stated in an exclusive interview with **Graphic Showbiz**.
According to him, it is premature to confirm whether the category will return, as the VGMA board has yet to meet and assess the groups eligible for consideration.

“At the moment, I’m not in the position to say yes or no to the question because the board is yet to meet, so the decision will be taken after assessment of groups in the year under review,” he explained.
Klah also encouraged music groups not to limit themselves to just the Group of the Year category but to explore other options.
“Why do they want to limit themselves to just Group of the Year when they can file for other categories?” he questioned. He cited Team Eternity, a gospel group that made waves last year, as an example.
“For instance, we all know that Team Eternity did well last year, and so depending on performance and the board’s assessment, they can file and compete in all the gospel categories, including Most Popular, Artiste of the Year, or even Collaboration of the Year award if there was any.”
He further emphasized that other groups, regardless of genre, should not feel restricted. “Same with other groups who may be doing other genres.
They shouldn’t be restricted to just Group of the Year; they have many options by filing for other categories,” he noted. Entries for nominations officially closed on Sunday, February 16, and the VGMA board is yet to sit for the selection process.
