The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced the initiation of a three-week load management strategy in response to a decline in gas supply from Nigeria.
This reduction, which commenced on Wednesday, 12th June 2024, is a result of maintenance activities being carried out by a gas supplier in Nigeria.
The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has confirmed that these maintenance works are anticipated to last for three weeks.
As a consequence, there has been a reduction in Ghana’s overall power generation capacity, necessitating the implementation of load shedding to effectively manage electricity distribution during this period.
GRIDCo and ECG have reassured the public that they are collaborating closely with other stakeholders in the power sector to optimize available resources and minimize the impact on consumers.
Both companies are dedicated to ensuring that disruptions are handled efficiently and that essential services are sustained throughout the decreased gas supply. In a joint statement, GRIDCo and ECG expressed regret for the inconvenience caused by the power interruptions.
They reiterated their commitment to keeping the public informed about the situation and encouraged consumers to cooperate with the load management measures to help alleviate the effects of the reduced power generation capacity.
Consumers are advised to stay informed through official channels for updates on scheduled power outages and to plan accordingly during this period of reduced electricity supply.
