Gloria Sarfo Criticizes Ghanaian Colleagues for Attending AMAA

In response to her experience with the recent Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held in Nigeria, Ghanaian actress Gloria Sarfo has voiced frustration and disappointment with her colleagues who attended the event, despite the challenging circumstances many faced.

Gloria expressed that she and several others, including prominent actress and host Joselyn Dumas, encountered significant delays and even found themselves stranded at the airport.

This experience left her feeling that the event’s organization showed a lack of respect for their status as industry professionals.

Gloria Sarfo was notably disheartened that some of her colleagues, including the celebrated Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah, attended the event after such treatment, as she believes this response undermines their collective reputation.

She shared that, in her view, Ghanaians needed to make a unified statement about the incident to highlight the humiliation of their brands and Ghana as a whole.

Sarfo’s reflections spotlight her sense of national pride and concern for how Ghanaians in the entertainment industry are regarded, especially when representing their country abroad.

Drawing comparisons, Sarfo reflected on how Nigerians might have responded if the tables were turned. “Do you think if it were Nigerians treated that way, they would have kept quiet?” she asked.

Her words seem to underscore a broader frustration within Ghana’s entertainment industry—feeling that Nigerian players often receive favourable treatment while Ghanaians sometimes experience indifference or disrespect.

In Sarfo’s view, if Ghanaian professionals continue to accept subpar treatment quietly, they risk being “walked over” by their Nigerian counterparts.

This sentiment taps into a longstanding perception in Ghana’s entertainment scene, where industry players feel a need to assert their presence and demand respect on the international stage.

Sarfo’s critique is a call for collective self-advocacy, urging her peers to speak up and stand united against any disrespect.
