Ghanaian Men Celebrate “Money Bouquet” Ban

Several men have taken to social media to express their relief when the Bank of Ghana declared the end of the cedi notes as a money bouquet. There was widespread rejoicing.

The guys who feel social pressure to purchase their female lovers money and flowers needed a saviour, and someone did.

At a news event on Thursday, March 30, 2023, Dominic Owusu, head of the central bank’s currency department, spoke out against the public’s usage of Ghana cedis fashioned like flowers as presents.

“In recent times, you see people using the currency for bouquets and then sometimes when they want to do presentations, they use the currency to do designs in baskets, hampers. It is against the Bank of Ghana policy…desist from such acts, it is not in line with the policy so you must stop it. If you want to give a present, go and buy gifts. Don’t go and buy bouquets and do it,” he cautioned.

In response to the news, a number of young guys recounted their experiences as victims of the money bouquet.

Their tweets went viral because they described how their wives and girlfriends expected “money bouquets” on every public holiday and special occasion, including birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, and marriage proposals.

One person promised to call the law enforcement on anyone who goes against the Bank of Ghana directive. He wrote “if I see you buying Money Bouquet for a Lady, I will personally report your to the Police.

Another person also believes the “Bank of Ghana are saving boys from unnecessary pressure” and spending.

Many people now choose money bouquets as a great gesture instead of traditional options like flowers or gift baskets.
