Chancelor Bennet, best known by the stage ‘Chance The Rapper’, is an American rapper who has been spending more time in recent months exploring his African roots.

Chance and his best pal and fellow rapper Vic Mensa, are both of Ghanaian descent, and they visited their birth country several times in the first half of this year.

During one of these journeys, they were inspired by the country’s thriving culture that they decided to host a free music festival and visual arts event for foreign visitors.

The festival, ‘The Black Star Line Festival’, is the first event of a program the rappers aim to conduct annually in different locations across the globe.

Chance, who will co-host the first-ever Black Star Line event with Mensa in Accra, Ghana, in 2023, remarked, “I felt so free in Ghana… and I want others to feel the same way.”

Chance, Mensa, Erykah Badu, T-Pain, Jeremih, Sarkodie, Tobe Nwigwe, Asakaa Boys, and M.anifest will all play in a free concert on January 6 as part of a weeklong festival that also includes events and panel discussions.

To honor the victory for political independence that Ghanaians achieved in 1957, the celebration will take place at the Black Star Square in Accra.
