Ghana Police Service Launches Traffitech-Gh To Detect Road Traffic Offenses

The Ghana Police Service (GPS) is implementing an automated system with the aim of improving motorist safety and ensuring that drivers comply with road traffic rules.

The Traffictech-GH system includes a combination of cameras and sensors for successfully capturing photographs and videos of cars that demonstrate violations of road traffic regulations. The technology will also guarantee that motorists won’t need to be stopped by police on highways because violations and fines will be issued through the Short Message Service.

The plan was announced at a high-profile meeting of stakeholders with the goal to improve road safety.

The Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, COP Francis Ebenezer Doku, stated at the ceremony that the system uses automated penalties to increase deterrence and compliance on the road. He argued that this approach will facilitate drivers compliance with traffic laws and regulations.

“Traffictech-Ghana is important to maintain social order within the communities with a view to one protecting high sense of public trust in the police, facilitating law-abiding behaviours, fostering compliance and cooperation at the same time, and increasing the rate of detecting road traffic offenses,” he said.
