The Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey is demanding swift action from President John Dramani Mahama regarding allegations of illegal mining linked to Member of Parliament for Aowin, Oscar Larbi.
In a petition sent to the Jubilee House on January 30, the coalition—which includes media, labour groups, faith-based organizations, and traditional leaders—raised concerns over mining activities in the Tano Anwia Forest Reserve in the Aowin Municipality, Western North Region.
These activities are reportedly wreaking havoc on the environment, with significant forest loss and vegetation destruction.

Traditional authorities accuse Larbi of facilitating illegal mining by bringing in miners whose actions are causing extensive environmental harm.
The coalition is calling for an independent investigation by agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, the EPA, and the Minerals Commission to establish the truth and hold accountable those responsible.
They also demand that immediate steps be taken against any public officials, including MPs, found complicit in such activities.
